Project Welcome Back: Fall 2026

The JCSU Charlotte Alumni Association's Outreach Committe needs your help creating 1,200 Welcome Back Bags for students and to assist with Move The Herd (Fall 2026). Please se below for details:

Wednesday, August 12 - Latissa Brown, Team Leader

Shift 1 @ 1:00pm

Shift 2 @ 5:30PM

  • Sorting - Unbox and sort items by category in preparation for assembling the gift bags.

  • Bag Prep & Assembly - Adhere stickers to bags and ensure the contents of each bag are consistent with the designated items.

Thursday, August 13 - Adrian Lanett Harper, Team Leader

Shift 1 @ 1:00pm

Shift 2 @ 5:30pm

  • Deliver Bags to Dorm Rooms – Deliver gift bags to the rooms assigned to students prior to move-in.

Friday, August 14 (Freshmen Move In Day) and Saturday, August 15 (Upperclassmen), 2026

Setup @ 8:00AM by Team Leaders on both days

  • Moving Assistants - Assist students/families with unloading cars and moving items to dorm room.

  • Move The Herd Lobby Welcome Teams & Parking Lot Patrol - Team leaders will set up and maintain snacks and drinks in the lobby of the assigned dorm. Volunteers will greet and welcome students and their families during check-in, monitor the grounds and parking lot -reporting overflowing trash cans and may occassionaly pick up minor trash items. 

  • 4 people per dorm per time frame - 9am - 12:30pm, 12:30pm - 3:00pm, 3:00pm - 5:00pm

    • New Residence

    • Greenfield Hall 

    • Sanders Hall

    • Duke Hall

    • Mosiaic Village

  • Campus Greeters & Escorts - Adrian Lanett Harper, Team Leader

    • Greet parents and students, answering questions (using handouts) and escorting them to the appropriate locations. Individuals may be stationed on the Block, in the gym, at points of entry, and in parking areas.

Outreach Committee

The Outreach Committee of the Johnson C. Smith University Charlotte Alumni Association serves as a bridge between the Alumni Chapter, the University, and the greater Charlotte community.

Through volunteerism, community service initiatives and partnerships with local organizations, we collaborate with fellow alumni to increase visibility and impact throughout the Charlotte area and on campus.

The Outreach Committee strives to strengthen connections, uplift our community, and ensure that the Golden Bull legacy of service and excellence remains active and visible.
